Reflective Learning

It is really amazing and shock that i am about to finish my first year. I still remember the first day of orientation and now i am writing this as a farewell for my first year. First year for me is all about the basics. First year is the core of everything; you have to master first year so that you have strong foundation and will go through second and third year with ease. For kitchen and pastry this 1st semester and 2nd semester really taught me a lot of basic so that when i go to my 2nd year I don't have any problem for advance cuisine. Likewise, business communication has taught me all the necessity things that i need to master in order to achieve success in life after graduating. It taught me how to write a formal latter, cover latter and for me the most important topic for this subject was the resume. I have few bumps along the road but i think i manage to pulled myself together at the end of the day for business communication.

My 3rd semester was a roller coaster ride. Having entremet was really challenging and fun at the same time. It was really blood, sweat and tears. Having accounting as a core module also really make it challenging because i used to took accounting in my foundation years and i failed. But with help of my lecturer and encouragement from my friends i had passed with flying colours. At the end of my semester 3 i also had to do my internship which is really fun! I had the opportunity to undergo my internship at a 5 Star hotel that is The Westin Kuala Lumpur. It was really an experience. To had a little bit of taste of the real industry really open up my eyes on what i wanted to do for my whole life as a chef. This experience i cannot buy it from anywhere and believe me it has turn me into a stronger man mentally and physically.

In my semester 4 and i had face a new challenges. Semester 4 I had learned couple of interesting subject such as Oenology, Research Methodology, French, and surprisingly this semester my batch, BC 10 is the first batch of degree student to learn Front Desk subject. Everything in semester 4 was okay accept wine studies, I found it quite hard with this subject but I managed to pass this subject and grateful to passed with Dean's List award.

Semester 5 is a interesting and fascinating semester for me. I did my exchange student in this semester in Tampere, Finland. I went there for 5 months and i did Hospitality Management. I did not learned anything regarding kitchen life there but more on management. The subjects that I took was Finnish language, Economics, Business Planning, Nutritional Care, School Visit and Human Resource Management. I travelled a lot during my exchange. During this semester I had learned a lot about people, culture and of course food. Travelling really open my eyes to our beautiful world.

3 years of degree life had just passed. It was a roller coaster ride. Tears of joy, sad, blood sweat and tears in the kitchen, hardship of internship and being away for 6 months during exchange student. All this sweet memories have come to an end. What a journey. I cannot describe how grateful I am to be in this batch (BC 10) surrounding with amazing people who later in life will be a great and successful human being. Being taught by the best in class and out. So much of emotions for me right now. Reading back the first paragraph I wrote on top after finishing my second semester and now here I am writing this at the end of the journey for my degree. I would like to thank everyone who have been with me throughout my entire 3 years of degree.
